Rejuran Aftercare: What to Do (and Absolutely Not Do) After Your Treatment

Rejuran Aftercare: What to Do (and Absolutely Not Do) After Your Treatment

You did it. You sat through the tiny needles, survived the little bumps, and walked out of the clinic feeling like you'd just made a very adult investment in your skin.

Now comes the part nobody talks about enough — what you do in the next 24 to 72 hours matters more than you think.

Rejuran works by triggering your skin's own repair system. Which means: right after treatment, your skin is in active recovery mode. Help it along, and you'll see better results faster. Ignore the aftercare, and you're essentially paying for a renovation and then leaving the windows open in a storm.

Here's exactly what to do.

The First 24 Hours: Handle With Care

Your skin has just been through a lot. Respect that.

✅ Do:

  • Apply a cool compress to the treated area — 10 minutes every hour on treatment day helps reduce swelling and soothe the skin
  • Cleanse gently with a mild, non-alcoholic cleanser
  • Keep skin hydrated with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser
  • Drink plenty of water — hydration supports collagen regeneration from the inside

❌ Don't:

  • Touch or rub the treated area for at least 24 hours — this reduces the risk of irritation and infection
  • Apply makeup for the first 24 hours
  • Use active skincare products — that means retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and vitamin C go on the shelf for now
  • Apply oil-based products to the treated area

The First 72 Hours: The Critical Window

The bumps will fade. The redness will settle. Your job is to not interfere with the process.

❌ Avoid:

  • Activities that generate heat — saunas, hot showers, and intense exercise for at least 24 hours
  • Alcohol for at least 24 hours — it dilates blood vessels and increases swelling risk
  • Blood-thinning supplements like aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil for 7 days unless prescribed by your doctor
  • Pressing or massaging the treated area — let it settle on its own
  • Face-down massages or anything that puts direct pressure on the face for 48 hours

If you notice bruising — which is common and completely normal — Arnica or Hirudoid cream can help speed up healing. An LED light session can also accelerate recovery if bruising is significant.

Sun Protection: Non-Negotiable

This is the one aftercare step that applies forever — not just the first few days.

Protecting your skin from excessive sun exposure is essential after Rejuran treatment. Sunlight can accelerate the aging process and potentially reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.

In Sydney, this is especially important. Our UV index is no joke — even on overcast days.

Rule: SPF 50+ every single morning, rain or shine, treated skin or not. If you're spending time outdoors, reapply every two hours.

What's Normal vs. What's Not

Let's talk about the bumps. Because if nobody warned you, your first post-Rejuran mirror moment can be a little confronting.

Completely normal:

  • Small raised bumps at injection sites — these typically resolve within a few hours to a couple of days
  • Mild redness and swelling for 24–72 hours
  • Slight bruising — common, won't affect your final results
  • Skin feeling slightly tight or tender

Worth contacting your clinic:

  • Swelling that worsens after 72 hours rather than improving
  • Signs of infection — unusual warmth, pus, or fever
  • Severe or spreading redness
  • Any reaction that concerns you — always better to check

Your Skincare Routine Post-Rejuran

Think of this as a temporary minimalist era for your skin.

Week 1: Cleanser, gentle moisturiser, SPF. That's it. No actives, no exfoliants, no new products.

Week 2 onwards: Gradually reintroduce your usual routine. Start with one product at a time to make sure your skin is responding well.

If you're using PDRN-based home care products — like a Rejuran repairing cream or PDRN serum — these can actually be introduced sooner, as they support the skin's natural healing process rather than disrupting it.

When Will You See Results?

Here's the honest answer: not immediately.

While some clients may notice an improvement in skin texture and hydration after a week, optimal results are often achieved with multiple sessions 4 weeks apart.

The real transformation happens below the surface as collagen slowly rebuilds. Most people notice the biggest difference around the 4–6 week mark after their first session — and results continue to improve with subsequent treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear makeup the same day? No. Give your skin at least 24 hours before applying any makeup to allow the injection sites to close properly.

Can I exercise after Rejuran? Wait at least 24 hours before returning to strenuous exercise. Heat and sweat in the first 24 hours increase the risk of swelling and irritation.

How long do the bumps last? Most people find the bumps settle within a few hours to 1–2 days. If you have an important event, plan your treatment accordingly — we'd suggest at least 3–4 days of buffer.

Can I combine Rejuran aftercare products with my usual skincare? Stick to the basics for the first week. After that, you can gradually reintroduce your routine. If in doubt, ask us — we're happy to advise on what works best with your specific skin.

What if I'm not sure something is normal? Call us. Seriously. That's what we're here for.

The Bottom Line

Rejuran does the hard work from the inside. Your job in the days that follow is simple: be gentle, stay protected, and let your skin do what it was just triggered to do.

It won't ask for much. Just a little patience — and SPF.
